McDermott Elementary wishes to thank our amazing Partner In Education Capital Community Church for feeding our staff last Friday during Teacher Appreciation Week! Pastors Jimmy and Maranda Leonard have an incredible food ministry, and cooking is their specialty! We enjoyed a delicious meal of Chicken Las Vegas, rice, green beans, and Honey Bun Cake for dessert -- yum, yum!!! We love ya!!!

If a student becomes sick, they should remain at home and avoid returning to school until they are fully recovered. Students must be free from fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for at least 24 hours without the use of medications (such as fever reducers like Tylenol or ibuprofen) before returning.
This 24-hour period ensures that symptoms have truly passed and reduces the risk of spreading illness to others. Even if a student feels better after taking medication, they should continue to rest at home until they can remain symptom-free without medication support.
We encourage good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when feeling unwell.
By following these guidelines, we can work together to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!

McDermott Elementary wants to thank our incredible partner Trinity United Methodist Church for feeding our staff Tuesday during Teacher Appreciation Week! Meredith and Regina were amazing, and stayed through lunches to greet staff and express their appreciation. Having been educators themselves, they get it! :) We love ya, Trinity UMC!!!

McDermott Elementary would like to thank our wonderful Partner In Education, Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, for catering an amazing lunch from Chipotle for our educators during Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers certainly felt appreciated! PVCOC has done SO much for our students and staff this year, always serving with authentic spirit and heart. Thank you so much for your friendship and support!

We are having a lot of problems with students not following our dress code. Please check your child's outfit and remember that students should not be wearing pajama pants, have a bare midriff (watch tied up shirts!) or have shorts/skirts/holes in jeans that are shorter than their hanging fingertips. Additionally, students are advised NOT to wear open-toed shoes because of our wood chips on the playground, but they ARE NOT PERMITTED to wear shoes with no backs (slides, etc.). This is a safety issue during play time and PE. We are also seeing many students bringing blankets to school. Blankets need to stay at home. We will begin calling parents of children who do not meet dress code to pick their child up or bring a change of clothing. If your child needs clothing or shoes that meet our dress code, please contact Ms. Dial at pam.dial@lrsd.org
