Hello, Team, I know the messaging has been confusing this evening. The latest is that only 12 month employees should report tomorrow and if they feel unsafe they should contact their supervisors. Fingers crossed for Tuesday! 🤞🏻 Pam

Graphic from Little Rock School District titled “Optimizing Our Tomorrow: Budget Conversations – Community Meetings.” The top of the image shows the Little Rock School District logo and name over a blue background with charts and data visuals. The graphic explains that the Fiscal Year 2027 budget priorities include spending only the money the District actually has, adjusting staff levels to match student enrollment, cutting overall spending to address long-term budget gaps, building a healthier savings balance for future financial challenges, and protecting programs, people, and resources that matter most to students and classrooms. The graphic invites all community members, especially parents, students, staff, and families, to participate in discussions about the future of the District and its budget. It emphasizes that community feedback is important and reflects the District’s commitment to transparency and listening. The bottom of the graphic lists two community meeting dates: February seventeenth, evening session at five thirty p.m. at Southwest Community Center; and February nineteenth, evening session at five thirty p.m. at Henderson.

Good afternoon, Parents, I apologize for the delay in notification but in the spirit of transparency, we wanted to inform you of an incident in a classroom yesterday. A student brought a kitchen knife to school, which was reported by classmates who saw it. The substitute teacher promptly alerted administration who confiscated the knife after being alerted by the classmates. While no immediate threat was indicated, we are grateful for the classmates who reported the incident. The student in question will be sanctioned according to the Student Code of Conduct. Parents, please remind your student of the potential danger and consequences of bringing such items to school. It takes all of us working together to ensure safe campuses and I appreciate the support you provide to McDermott daily. If you have questions, please feel free to contact my office. Sincerely, Pam Dial pam.dial@lrsd.org

Reading in the Rock at McDermott Elementary! ✨📚
McDermott Elementary is so proud to participate in Reading in the Rock, a wonderful book distribution supported by the City of Little Rock and LRSD!
Before the holidays our students were excited to choose five books of their very own, plus one additional book generously provided by the Smith Memorial Book Fund. While waiting for their turn to select books, the students built a snowman ornament. Students were also given a cool backpack to take the books home. Having books they can keep helps build a love of reading and gives students the opportunity to read anytime, anywhere.

Students have been encouraged to log their reading and return their reading logs after the holiday break. Students who turn in their logs will earn fun prizes as we continue to celebrate reading at McDermott!
Thank you to our community partners for supporting literacy and helping us inspire a lifelong love of reading in our students.
